and the winner is...

Something like 2 or 3 billion peolpe watched the Oscars last night.

I was number 156,365,982,321.

As i watch i like to not only critique what everyone is wearing (*speaking of which there were a lot of gorgeous dresses this go round-a couple boring navy one's but for the most part everyone look really good) i also like to guess at who is going to win before they announce it.

After last night i decided that i'm going into this for money next year because out of all the winners last night i only got 4 wrong.
oh.
yeah.
haha although this won't make my list of proudest accomplishments it was pretty satisfying even if my significant other would never remember to count the ones i got right and only focus on those i got wrong. *smirk*
so that's it
thanks for reading :)

With a wink and a....WATCH OUT!

When I was a little girl I read a scripture in the Bible that talked about winking. I can't remember it's exact wording-and now having tried to find it I think I may have combined two verses in my head-but it said something to the effect of...the man that winks with his eye will have it plucked out and be eternally damned.

Yeah, now that I write that I definitely got the verse wrong as a child but no matter, that's what I thought the Bible said so I adheared to it closely.
So closely, in fact, that everytime a friends dad or someone would wink at me I would get scarred that birds were on their way to extract the sinners eye-ball.

Obviously as I grew older I came to my senses and the realization that there was something deeper going on with whatever it was I read, and literal winking wouldn't reserve your spot in hell.

Now days...I love getting winked at. The non-touchy person that I am I would much rather be given a ;) then a hug or various other forms of physical affection.
Maybe subconsciously I still believe people are putting their eternal lives on the line whenever they wink at me and that makes it all the more alluring, I don't know, I do know that I absolutely love it.

It's quick, it's fun, it's a moment shared only between you and the winker...and that makes me smile everytime.

Although it is ironic that my friends dad who winked the most ended up wearing an eye patch over that eye for a long time and I never knew why...

just jokin

bowl full of hot, steamy nothing

i sat down at the computer in the ut library.
immediately typed in a title and the intro to a blog about how depressing movie reviewers are but i couln't quite get the intro to sound fresh so i kept erasing everything i wrote.
then i started, in fact fully wrote a blog about the importance of outlining before you write papers, but then i thought that sounded tired so i erased it.
now i'm sitting here looking around the room as all the Uggs over tucked jeans walk by.
i tune in and out of various cell phone conversations to my front and left.
i think about how i need to brush my teeth.
i realize after glancing through what i've written so far that i changed tenses half way through.
now i'm thinking that i'm getting bored by what i'm writing so you've got to be half way asleep.
now i'm thinking that i should get to class.
some days are better blog writing days then others.
yeah,
i can't even come up with a witty end.
so insert your own :)
that's it.
this blog is an exercise in sharpening your own wit.
you're welcome.

Oh the places you'll go!

Looking back on my childhood, some of my favorite memories are the books i read.

I was a religious reader from the get go.
I can remember going to our library and pouring over the childrens section with great determination to choose only the best books since they had a limit on how many you could check out at one time.
Amelia Bedilia was my favorite book series for a while. Amelia was a maid for a very rich woman but Amelia's problem was that she took everything literally. When her boss said "strip the bed" then Amelia would take scissors and cut the bedsheets into strips, when she was told to make "string beans" she got some string and hung beans from one corner of the kitchen to the other. Or when her boss wanted to throw a baby shower...you guessed it, all of the guests left wet.
It was such a great series because it allowed children to laugh at something adults would laugh at, and that made me feel big.
Another favorite series that i can remember going and picking out with my Dad especially, was Frog and Toad. While no particular plot line sticks out in my head, the pictures are still there and i can revisit the visual of their tales any time i want.

My fifth grade teacher had a big hand in deepening my appetite for books. After our lunch time everyday we would turn off all the lights, put our heads on our desks and listen intently as she would read us a book. One book, whose name escapes me, was about a missionary that smuggled Bibles into a foreign country. It had red tipped pages and i can recall scenes of the main character walking down the street, or driving past border patrolls with hundreds of Bibles going unseen.
But the greatest book she ever read us, the best by far that was just as much my favorite book then as it is now was "From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankwhiler" (this book was mentioned by jim on a special "webisode" of the office entitled "take your daughter to work day")
It's the kind of story you read and re-read because you wanted to live it so badly. It's about two kids who decide to run away to the museum in New York. They plan it out carefully and stay very comfortably in the bed of a famous historical figure. The whole book is just amazing and i've re-read it every year since fifth grade.

I love the fact that i read because when i look back on my childhood and think of everything i got to experience, those memories include running away to a famous museum, smuggling Bibles across borders, solving cases with the hardy boys, or getting into scrapes with little Ramona. I have an abundance of characters and scenes in my head that would have never been there had i not been afforded the pleasure of books.

It saddens me when children don't tap into that world that's waiting for them in their own imagination, which is why i want to write childrens books.
I want that chance to speak to children in a way no one else can, through characters and plots and adventures, to take them places they may never physically go but will look back on with detailed memory as if they had.

To have the opportunity to be a part of so many people's childhood would be a such an honor.

Report: Writers Strike End is Near

My plan was to rant and rave about the writers strike this post...but according to my People Headlines gadget on my iGoogle homepage *written as if it would make me sound cool and not the big entertainment news junkie that i am* the writers strike is drawing to a close

my reaction?

IT'S ABOUT TIME

although i understand both sides view on the matter and can see why each would want to hold out...it's the people-- You and Me that are suffering from this hold out the most. we've been deprived of our favorite plot lines and characters, and in the mean time newer and dumber reality shows are being crammed down our entertainment thirsty throats-"my dad is better then your dad" seriously? ( i would use that lie detector test show as an example as well but that's just the kind of smut fox turns out-writers or no writers)

it has been said that the writers could return as early as monday and if that's the case then i expect a fresh episode of chuck and the office as early as thursday. no excuses.
and if michael decides to lead pam, and jim and the rest of the office characters on a strike from dunder mifflin as a part of the plot line then i'll gladly watch cause i think that would be funny

just as long as they're back and new because i miss them so

Chi Tea Latte

I can't think of any other eatery that conjures up equal amounts of love and hate as much as Starbucks coffee.

The lovers-they are intoxicated by its welcoming smell and will admit intimidation when the thought of "trying something new" crosses their mind, usually set in their ordering ways. They carry the iconic cup with pride that stems from the assumed power they have over others who are without.

The haters-they see the entire franchise as an evil force looking to penetrate our world with artificial people drinking artificial things. And they will stop at nothing to bad mouth the "overpriced lattes". They assume that everyone in there derives confidence from ordering a "tall decaf cappuccino" and hates them for it.

Paisely expressed her thoughts of the "evil" starbucks while next to me in Writing Fiction. As i listened i smiled and slowly turned away the ceramic travel coffee mug that sat in front of me, emblazoned with "Starbucks Coffee" on the side...I am a lover.

not too late to come away with me cause it feels like home.

i adore rain.
rain, and cold, and cloudy...all of them are enjoyable weather simply because they are good coffee/tea days with norah jones as your soundtrack.

rainy days are jazzy days
and that's probably why i love them.
